The petty is a knife optimized for delicate, precision tasks. While the length of all petties lend themselves to these tasks, the Takamura Migaki 150mm petty is uniquely equipped to excel in this role. The Takamura Migaki petty is constructed of R2 powdered metallurgy steel, an advanced steel capable of taking acute and highly refined edges ideal for making clean cuts. Like all knives in the Migaki line, this petty is laser thin, light, and balanced in the hand ensuring that when the knife falls through product, it does so precisely where it was meant to.

This knife is currently my favorite among my 15 other purchases. I want to underline the professionalism of this website which quickly sent me my product. In short, I am 100% satisfied with this knife which has a lot of character and sharpness as well as I am satisfied of this website. Moreover the color of the knife is really good, it is very beautiful!

I've been shopping around for a while for a reasonably priced powder metal petty knife to replace our VG10 petty. We have owned a PM Santoku for years and despite daily use it still amazes us that it keeps its keen edge whereas our VG10 and SKD11 knives require annual touch-ups on the Apex Pro.
The Takamura R2 Petty was fabulously sharp right out of the box; I expected to need to give it a tune-up on receiving it but it definitely did not need it.
The only OCD quibble I have is that the handle and tang aren't perfectly matched ... the tang feels a few microns larger. Of course it does not affect cutting performance. Would this stop me buying another? At this price they represent such great value it'd be hard to justify looking elsewhere.

As others have mentioned, if you're considering this knife then just add it to your cart and get it on the way to you already. Straight from the box this is extremely sharp and a joy to use. I got the petty for the occasional task, but I find myself reaching for this all the time now.

If you stopped to take a look at this blade, buy it.
The grind is impeccable, R2 is excellent steel, and this is a well done piece.
I was looking for a very thin, very light petty. I was going to go Konosuke, but after a bit of deliberation chose the Takamura, and I am not disappointed. The knife is peerless, I have several 150mm petties, and they are used often for everything from work on the line, to prepping chicken, fish, and trimming steaks. This knife is incredibly thin, but still fairly stiff. Super lightweight, despite the western handle, and it comes somewhere around an 8/10 for OOTB sharpness.
Fit and finish are good, although of little concern to me, as this is a tool for work. If you need to cut garnishes, this is the knife for you. You will not be disappointed.
