The polishing tapes feature sticky backs and mount on to the Sharpening/Polishing Tape Blank so they can used in the machine, just like the stones.
Please choose the type of blank you want. The thick ones are meant to be used with the fine tapes and the thin blanks are meant for the replacement stones.

I purchased the extra thick edge pro blanks. They are designed for the polishing tapes and are quite flat. I am not, however. using them for the polishing tapes. I glued my CKTG diamond stones on them. That way I can sharpen some knives at a slightly smaller angle without the stone arm hitting the nut on the blade table.

Aluminum blank came out of the box with a pretty machined surface on it, but the were several nicks in it. Little galls sticking up in several places that would have torn through my polishing films immediately. I had to spend a while cleaning it up. It should be fine now, but I would much rather have glass blanks.
