This knife was used once and returned. It has some scratches on the blade. Save $155.00! It's not every day that we can offer a knife made by hand from a licensed Japanese swordsmith. Yukawa san a sword maker from Hofu in central Japan. He asked me for a loan over a year ago to build out his workshop and make some improvements. But instead of asking for the money back, I told him I would take payment in kitchen knives if he was interested, and he said ok.

this was my first santoku in my collection. and i love it.
I ordered this knife on a whim partly due to the story behind the blacksmith and the other glowing review on this site and it has by far exceeded expectations.
the fit and finish out the box was incredible, the grind and geometry feel perfect, and it came with an insane out of the box sharpness with an insanely thin micro bevel he has finished the blade with.
I've used it extensively for about a month and have run it on my 4k stones once for a quick resharpen and it was effortless. this knife is so easy to sharpen just following the original bevel. it was a pure joy to put to the stone.
there is something that is just special about this santoku. If you have the opportunity i recommend picking one up.

My most prized knife

I've been swooning over this knife for a good amount of time. It was removed from the site for a small period but then returned and I couldn't of been luckier to be able to acquire this knife when it was relisted.
This knife is the epitome of master craftsmanship without any need for flare. From the walnut and buffalo horn handle to the polish to the geometry, this knife is truly perfect.
The feel is light and nimble with excellent ballance. The edge geometry is ground to a true 0, no microbeveling, and the out of the box edge was spooky sharp.
Every time I pick up and use this knife I'm filled with awe of the the time and craft that went into making it. On his website, Yasha Yukawa details the processes in the creation of his blades, from hand cutting the charcoal, to the smelting, to heat treating in darkness because the glow of the knife dictates the treatment desired, to the hand filing and finishing...every step is the process of a true master.
This is by far my most prized knife, with a perfect balance of simplicity and master craftsmanship.

I also feel as though my initial review leaves out so much of what makes this knife perfection. That's a fault of my own as I'm flooded with such strong emotion with this knife that I lose track of everything amazing I want to say.
All I can say is, if you find yourself with the opportunity to own a blade from Master Yasha Yukawa, that you don't pass it by. I will certainly keep my eyes out for others as they become available
