We are now purchasing and importing these stones directly from Shapton in Japan and are a registered distributor for them. We will be providing warranty support if you have issues with them. The name of the Pro stones is Kuromaku Professional and these are the same stones as the old Shapton Professionals.
One of the most highly regarded series of synthetic stones on the market, the Shapton Professional line is designed with speed and ease of use in mind. The stones cut very quickly and require no soaking, simply splash and go. Combined with very good feedback, high levels of refinement at their given grit rating, and resistance to wear and dishing, it is no wonder Shapton Pro stones are some of our top sellers. Shapton includes a very handy case with each stone that can double as a stone holder.
The 1000 Grit Pro is considered medium grit and is an excellent stone to start most maintenance edge work with and is also an indispensable transition stone between edge setting and polishing grits in a full progression.

The Starbucks of Stones

I dont have anything bad to say about this stone. If you look around you can find better stones but Shapton makes good and consistent stones. I know that if this one breaks or gets worn out that I can buy a new one and it will work just the same. That is nice.

This is a great basic stone, and can work well enough to be your only stone. I had previously bought a cheap combo from Amazon that did nothing. For the same price you can buy this and actually get a nice usable edge.

Admittedly the only water stones I have tried are the Shapton Pro 1k & 5k but I just love this 1k. I have sharpened about two dozen knives, mostly stainless Chicago Cutlery, Wusthof, Henckels, and the 1k is very quick to develop a burr. With more practice and patience I have found that by adjusting the pressure and using stropping strokes I can get a very nice and slightly polished edge with just the 1k. The splash 'n' go is very convenient and the integrated stone holder on the case is more than adequate. I highly recommend this sharpening stone.

As a pocket knife nut turning into a kitchen knife nut, sharpening stones are a logical next step at some point. Got this along with a shapton 320 to get started. All of the knives in our kitchen were basically wedging through food as opposed to cutting them. There were chips and rolled edges all over the place. With the 320 to set a new bevel and this 1000 i have put hair popping edges on all of our kitchen knives. This website with its forum and product reviews is an amazing resource for newbies to the world of kitchen knives and sharpening.

Ive been sharpening on oilstones for the past 15 years, stubbornly sticking to what Id learned. Setting aside my medium India stone for the Shapton Pro 1000x was a revelation, and I plan to acquire a range of these soon!

I have used a traditional water stone which works fine, but takes two days to dry before I can put in back in the drawer. This ceramic stone is always ready for a quick touch-up/ maintenance sharpen. The water stone job was easy to put off because of the production and care needed just to sharpen.

This was part of my first stone set. It has served me well, from carbon ss jks and soft and cheap knives. Cuts fast. Some people say they aren't very fun to use, but I've enjoyed it alot. You never worry about gouging them. Great stone in my opinion for beginners and pros.

This is my go to stone for stainless steel blades. It works well on carbon steel too, but it really seems to shine on the SS. Depending on the amount of pressure - either a gritty/toothy edge, or a slightly more refined edge can be formed.I love the splash and go capability!Get it wet and put the metal to it!Like the other SP's I've tried; it doesn't dish quickly, and is fair at material removal.

Just what I was hoping for. Wanted to try a Chosera but they are just too expensive. This shapton works just as advertised. I wanted the coarsest medium grit stone for setting a new bevel, but one that would let me transition into my ceramics towards finishing. I was stuck between this and the 1500 grit. This stone was the right choice, it cut fast, did not wear much at all and leaves a good edge ready to start a polishing process. Fantastic! I enjoyed using the build in stone holder on the box. May not want to use this for reprofiling or severe damage, but to set a new edge on a knife that is not completely destroyed this stone really does the trick!

Very fast cutter, it dish very slow. This stone does not seem to wear. It is hard, and does not need to presoak. It is a perfect finish stone for an average kitchen knive, and it is the perfect bevel setter for straigth razors. It cuts steel real fast with a nice finish. It feels and cuts steel like a Chosera because it is a hard stone. I'd buy it again

received this and the 5k as a gift. I have never sharpened a knife on a stone before. I have watched many videos though. sharpened an old chicago cutlery knife in 10 minutes to a working edge. next sharpened a house knife that had been used daily for 8 months with no sharpening. another matter of minutes and it was back to slicing. I loved it. feels great. no gouges so far. builds my confidence to eventually sharpen my own knives. dries fast. handy case/holder. all color coded.

One of the best cutting medium stones I have ever used I use this stone rite after my 600 chosera and all you have to do is splash and cut. It builds a quick burr and to top it off the case serves as a holder while u sharpen. When it wears out which I don't see that happening any time soon I will buy another hands down the best 1000 for the money.
